What is llms.txt, and why does it matter?

What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a simple Markdown file placed in your website's root directory, defined by the llmstxt.org standard. Just like robots.txt guides search engine crawlers, llms.txt gives large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini a clean, curated view of your most important content.

How is llms-full.txt different?

llms-full.txt is the expanded version of the summary-style llms.txt. It combines your entire documentation or content into a single file, so an LLM can take in everything at once instead of crawling page by page.

Why does it matter?

AI search is growing fast. People now ask AI assistants instead of classic search engines. If your content isn't in those answers, you're invisible. llms.txt removes HTML noise and helps models cite your site accurately.

How do you create one?

Just put a Markdown file at /llms.txt in your site's root. Include your site name, a short description, and links to your most important documentation pages in Markdown format.
